SQ police officers in Rimouski were called to intervene around 7:47 p.m. Sunday with a man in crisis (archives).
The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is investigating the circumstances of an intervention by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in Rimouski on Sunday evening.
According to information from the Bureau transmitted by via a press release, a 52-year-old man was taken to a hospital center where he succumbed to his injuries.
BEI managers specify that the police were called to intervene in a public place where a disorganized man was lying on the ground.
When the SQ police arrived on the scene, the individual was no longer there. After searching for him, officers located him in a disorganized state inside the apartment building where he lives.
So that the police would have arrested him, the man would have fallen down a flight of stairs. The individual succumbed to his injuries in the evening, the statement read.
Five BEI investigators have been assigned to investigate the circumstances of the incident. #x27;event.
The BEI must investigate in all cases where a person, other than a police officer on duty, dies, suffers a serious injury or is injured by a police officer during a police intervention or during his detention by a police force.
The SQ indicates that it will not comment since the x27;investigation falls under the Office of Independent Investigations.
