The President of Indonesia is already in Kyiv. Goes to Irpin

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has arrived in Kyiv. He became the first Asian leader to visit Ukraine since the beginning of the war.

– The eleven-hour train journey from the Polish city of Przemysl to the Ukrainian capital went smoothly and without a hitch. We arrived at platform 1 of the Kyiv Central Station around 08:50 local time, where we were met by several Ukrainian officials,” Widodo tweeted.

Before meeting with the President of Ukraine, he plans to visit Irpin and the Center for Endocrine Science and Surgery, Transplantation of Organs and Endocrine Tissue of Ukraine in Kyiv.

After Kyiv, Widodo is going to visit Russia for talks with Putin. He calls on the President of the Russian Federation not only for a complete ceasefire, but also for resolving the global food crisis, which is impossible without unblocking Ukrainian ports and resuming the export of fertilizers from Russia.

So who is Joko Widodo himself? He is quite a bright and remarkable personality. He was born in 1961 in the city of Surakarta in a Javanese family. At birth, the boy was named Muliono, but due to the fact that the child was often sick, his parents changed him to Joko Widodo, where “Widodo” means “healthy” in Javanese.

After winning the presidential election in 2014, he expressed a desire to be called by his nickname – Jokowi. The president of the fourth most populous country in the world said that calling him by the name Joko would be inconvenient, and “Mr. Widodo or President Widodo” would sound strange. “President Jokowi, or simply Jokowi” is the name preferred by the President of Indonesia.

Indonesian media have revealed that the nickname “Jokowi” was given to the future president by a Frenchman who was his client when Joko Widodo was a businessman selling furniture. A foreigner named Bernard contacted several people named Joko in Indonesia and suggested that Widodo add the particle “vi” from the surname to the name in order to stand out among them.

But as a child, due to the poverty of his parents, he was forced to earn a living by working as a street peddler and loader. Having learned carpentry from his father, he made souvenirs for sale, and later furniture. In 1985, he graduated from Gaja Mada University with a degree in forestry engineering. After graduating from the university, he worked for a short time in a state-owned woodworking company, then started his own business in the same area. By the early 2000s, he was in charge of a large furniture company.

In 2005, he was elected mayor of Surakarta. Under his leadership, large-scale socio-economic and administrative transformations were carried out in the city. The reforms carried out significantly strengthened the reputation of the city not only at the national, but also at the regional level. In 2012, he received the 3rd Class World Mayor's Award for “transforming a crime-ridden city into a regional center of culture and arts and a tourist attraction.”

The same year, Jokowi became Governor Jakarta. Then he won the next presidential election, held on July 9, 2014. According to The Economist, Jokowi enjoys listening to rock music at high volumes and once owned a guitar autographed by members of Metallica.
