Russia issued orders for the restoration and modernization of 800 Soviet T-62 tanks. Journalist Yury Butusov writes about this on his Facebook page.
«According to the statement of State Duma deputy Gurulev, the 103rd tank repair plant received orders for the restoration and modernization of 800 old Soviet T-62 tanks within three years. It is stated that all tanks will receive thermal imaging sights and additional hinged protection. Previously, thermal imagers were not installed on T-62M tanks. A report from the plant shows that the process of updating tanks will be lengthy, since components for it will have to be partially produced, and a significant amount of restoration work will have to be carried out. The engine is visible, which was obviously stored without proper conditions», — he writes.
According to Butusov, Russia does not have the resources and technologies to wage war primarily with high-precision weapons, so it is preparing to restore all available stocks of tank corps for waging war with a mobilization army against the old, but mass weapons.
«This is due to the high losses of tanks during the aggression, the supply of new tanks cannot cover the losses, mass weapons are needed to arm the mobilized troops. Russia is not able to increase the production of modern equipment, and therefore orders tanks that can be repaired with Soviet-style technologies» , – added the journalist.
