Despite the fact that the meeting of Ukrainian representatives with Western allies in Ramstein ended without news about the provision of tanks to our country, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov promised «continuation». This is reported by CNN.
Already at the end of the meeting at the American base in Germany, US President Joe Biden said that Ukraine would receive all the necessary assistance to fight the Russian army. This is how he answered when asked if he supported the idea of Poland to send German-designed tanks to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK Vadim Prystaiko said in an interview with «Suspilny« that Britain, which is the only one of the allies so far, has officially announced the supply of Challenger 2 — of their Western-style tanks, Ukrainian military exercises will begin in the near future.
«The crews of heavy artillery systems are already training and tankers will arrive soon», — promised the Ukrainian ambassador.
According to Prystaiko, training «will not take long», because, as British instructors say, the Ukrainian military is motivated and learns very quickly.
«When we train foot soldiers here – you know, we have already prepared 10 thousand, and since the beginning of the new year another 20 thousand have begun – it takes five weeks. It is difficult to say how much tankers will need to be trained – all the more so, these are artillerymen, and mechanics, and commanders & # 187;, & # 8212; the ambassador noted.
According to the diplomat, Ukrainian tankers will cope with the training «in a month and a half».
«If required, training will continue as it was before», — he added.
According to the ambassador, the tanks themselves are also already being prepared for shipment to Ukraine.
At the same time, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov said that, despite the fact that there are no agreements on the supply of German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine yet reached, Ukraine agreed to train its tank crews on these tanks.
«We have a breakthrough — this is an opportunity for countries that own «Leopards» to start training missions, courses for our tank crews. We will start with this, and then we will move on», — said the Ukrainian Minister of Defense in an interview with «Voice of America«.
He also noted that he was optimistic about the future provision of German tanks to Ukraine, — this decision, according to Reznikov, Berlin will reach «in a calm mode after holding its own internal consultations».
On Twitter, he also reported «frank» conversation with the new German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
«We had a frank conversation about «Leopards-2″. There will be a continuation», — wrote Reznikov.
