Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec are conducting searches to locate three missing persons in the Matagami area.

These are two women and a man between the ages of 24 and 30.

The police officers of the MRC d'Abitibi received a call at the end of the day on Saturday for a vehicle stuck in the Route 1000 sector.

Reinforcements from other MRCs joined the operation, which allowed to locate the vehicle on Sunday around 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of routes 1000 and 801 south of Matagami.

This is an area who is away gne. The roads are sometimes difficult to pass and communications are also difficult, explains Hélène St-Pierre of the SQ communications department.

A single occupant on board explains to the authorities that the two women and the man who accompanied him left on foot in order to find help or even a place to stay. The man is in good health, he was brought back by the police and there are still searches in progress to locate the other three individuals. There are patrollers and police on mountain bikes and an investigator who are involved in this file which is still ongoing, adds Hélène St-Pierre.

The SQ is also checking the hunting camps in the area.
