Ukraine will not host Eurovision 2023: the organizers have begun negotiations with the UK

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023, by decision of the organizers, will not be held in Ukraine. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), after a detailed analysis, came to the conclusion that the guarantees necessary for the safe holding of the contest in Ukraine are not enough. This is stated on the official website of the EBU.

– After an objective analysis, the reference group, the governing board of Eurovision, came to the conclusion with deep regret that, given the current circumstances, security and operational guarantees, the necessary things for holding, organizing and producing the contest in accordance with the Eurovision Rules, cannot be carried out by UA:First, the statement says.

The organizers begin negotiations with the British broadcaster BBC, whose participant took second place. The venue of the song contest will be announced later.

– We intend that the victory of Ukraine will be reflected in the next year's show. This will be a priority for us in negotiations with the possible hosts of the contest, the organizers noted.

The Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra won Eurovision 2022 with 631 points – 192 from the jury and 439 from the audience. This is the country's third victory in the competition. In 2004, Ruslana won with the song “Wild Dances”, and in 2016 – Jamala with the track “1944”.
