Vladimir Zelensky is in Amsterdam: We are waiting for a positive decision for Ukraine

A few days before the historic decision of the European Union on Ukraine, a charity telethon “Embrace Ukraine” was held in Amsterdam – #StrivingTogether. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke online at the event.

– I am sure that no one doubts that Ukraine should receive a positive decision. We deserve it! And they deserved it not only by our courage and fight for freedom,” the President began his speech.

He noted that Russia's attack on Ukraine renewed “the worst pages of history” in human memory. So, Russian bombs destroy cities, Russian soldiers kill thousands of civilians. And the Russian state is carrying out mass deportation of Ukrainians.

– What is it? This is an attack by Russia against all free Europe against our common values. Against the human rights of the rule of law and conventions that protect every person in Europe and the world. We will not allow our values to be destroyed. I believe that together we can end the war with our victory as quickly as possible. And we will rebuild what Russia has destroyed. A united Europe is definitely stronger than any tyranny. Even during such a tough war, democratic institutions have been preserved. Even now, we are expanding the scope of European values - yesterday the Parliament ratified the Istanbul Convention, – the head of state said.

He added that “no matter how much Russia presses” – the future of Europe – “certainly bright and free.”

On June 17, the European Commission recommended granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union. According to the Commission, Ukraine has clearly demonstrated the desire and determination to live by European values and standards.
