A man is in critical condition after a shooting involving Winnipeg police in the Windsor Park neighborhood early Saturday morning.

The incident happened shortly after 2 a.m., says the Police Department in a brief statement.

The man was transported to the hospital in a critical condition.

Manitoba's Independent Investigation Unit, whose mandate is to investigate all serious incidents involving police in the province, is taking over the investigation.

No indication is given, for the moment, on the man as well as on the precise place where the shooting occurred in the Windsor Park district.

Contacted by CBC, police would not give further details and referred to the ongoing investigation.
