Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny today held the first telephone conversation of the new year with General Mark Milley, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff. Zaluzhny announced this on his Telegram channel.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told Milli about changes in the operational-strategic situation, primarily in the ground and airspaces of Ukraine.
«Difficult battles are being fought at the Svatovo-Kremennaya line, as well as in the direction of Lisichansk. The most difficult situation remains on the Soledar-Bakhmut-Mayorsk section. There, the enemy is actually trying to move forward over the corpses of his own, but the units of the Defense Forces, at the cost of super efforts, hold back the enemy offensive. In the Donetsk direction, we managed to hold our positions around Avdiivka and continue counter-offensive operations. We reliably hold defensive lines in the Zaporozhye direction and make efforts to protect Kherson from enemy shelling, primarily civilians and critical infrastructure of the city. The situation on the border with the Republic of Belarus is fully controlled», — Zaluzhny wrote.
Also, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told Milli that from December 31 to this morning, the enemy had launched 14 cruise missile strikes and used 94 kamikaze drones of the «Shahed-136» . «Thanked General Milli for the foreign-made anti-aircraft missile systems provided with his active assistance. Today they are saving lives before the civilian population of Ukraine», — he added.
In addition, Zaluzhny and Milli discussed the needs of the defense forces to continue fighting the aggressor.
«I highly appreciate General Milli's leadership in providing Ukraine with military help. Mutual trust and a common vision help to increase the ability of the Ukrainian army to defend the peaceful cities and villages of our state, which is a guarantee of security throughout Europe»,— sums up Zaluzhny.
