Zelensky held the first “military” talks with the President of Moldova

Zelensky held the first

President Vladimir Zelensky held talks with Moldovan President Maia Sandu for the first time during the war. As the leader of Ukraine wrote on Twitter, the conversation took place by phone.

– Tomorrow's meeting of the European Council was discussed with Moldovan President Maia Sandu. We are waiting for the decision of the European Union on granting candidate status to our states. We agreed on mutual assistance on the way to the EU,” he stressed.

There is currently no information on the negotiations from the Moldovan side. At the same time, “European Truth” writes that a visit of the President of Moldova to Kyiv is being prepared.

The position of Chisinau after the Russian invasion aroused indignation in Kyiv, since Moldova immediately announced that it would not impose economic sanctions against Russia. Over time, Moldova introduced all the main bans, but unofficially, avoiding being included in the Russian list of “unfriendly states”.

Another controversial issue in relations between the two countries was the supply of weapons. The EP reports that in the early days of the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian leadership asked the Moldovan government to sell Soviet MiG-29 fighters. The Moldovan side refused, explaining that Chisinau does not want to irritate Russia.

Then, Sandu stated that Moldova does not have modern weapons to provide military assistance to Ukraine, and also cannot do this according to its constitution.
