Zelensky: Putin still wants to take Kiev

President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that, a year later, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not given up hope of occupying Kiev. He stated this in an interview with the BBC.

«I think President Putin still wants to occupy Kyiv. But their ideas, mission and hope concern the whole of Ukraine. For us to lose our independence and our sovereignty. And therefore, I think, everyone understood: if you cannot occupy the capital, if you cannot occupy Kyiv, you cannot occupy Ukraine», — emphasized the Ukrainian leader.

At the same time, the president is sure that for the Russians and Belarusians, if they join, it will be a huge challenge and problem to occupy Kiev, and a big mistake.

Zelensky believes that the Russian army is no longer as strong as it used to be. And even in her best form, she was unable to capture the Ukrainian capital.

The journalist asked Zelensky whether Ukraine would cope if Belarusian troops joined the Russians. The President assured that the Ukrainian Defense Forces would survive. He also added that this would mean the loss of history and the loss of Belarus.
