
Zelensky signed the law on the ratification of the Istanbul Convention
President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bill that provides for the ratification of the Istanbul Convention. The head of state announced this on his Facebook page. – Signed! Law on the ratification of the Istanbul Convention. Its main content is simple, but extremely important. It is an obligation to protect women from violence and all forms of discrimination. We share European values. For us, the life and health of a person is the highest value, the President wrote. The bill on ratification of the Istanbul Convention was adopted by the Rada at a plenary session on June 20. 259 people's deputies voted “for”. This document provides for the criminalization of violence against women, domestic violence, stalking, forced marriage and abortion, sterilization, as well as the protection of victims, the ability of law enforcement agencies to respond to various forms of violence and other measures to prevent or punish it. The Istanbul Convention was signed by Ukraine in 2011. Twice they tried to ratify it, but both times the people's choices “failed” the vote in the Rada. This document entered into force in 2014 and was signed by 46 EU countries.
