Zelensky urged NATO not to wait for Russia to use nuclear weapons and take preventive measures

President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a speech at the Lowy Institute on Thursday, October 6, urged NATO not to wait for a possible nuclear strike from Russia in order to then take action against the aggressor. He stated this during an online communication at the Australian Lowy Institute.

The Ukrainian leader believes that NATO needs to strike at the Russian Federation in order to exclude the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons.

«What should NATO do? Eliminate the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons. But what is important, I once again appeal to the international community, as it was before February 24: pre-emptive strikes, so that they (the Russians — ed.) know what will happen to them if used. Not the other way around — wait for Russia's nuclear strikes, then to say: «Oh, you are so, well, keep it from us!» Reconsider the application of your pressure, the procedure for applying & # 187;, & # 8212; Zelensky said.

Press Secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov responded to the proposal of the head of Ukraine. According to him, all countries of the world should pay attention to the statement about a preventive strike against Russia.

«Zelensky's statements — nothing but a call to start a world war»,— Peskov said.

Updated. Presidential spokesman Sergei Nikiforov clarified on Facebook that Zelensky was talking about the period before February 24, when the world had to take preventive measures to prevent Russia from starting a war.

“Let me remind you that the only measures that then there was talk, there were preventive sanctions. Only the terrorist state Russia allows itself to blackmail the world with explosions at the ZNPP and in every possible way hint at the use of nuclear weapons. You will never hear such calls from Ukraine,” he stressed.

  • The President of Ukraine believes that Putin “will not save a life” if he launches a nuclear strike.
