Zelensky urged to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council because of the terrorist attack in Kremenchug

Zelensky called for Russia to be expelled from the UN Security Council because of the terrorist attack in Kremenchug

President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council. During the appeal, he called on the body to exclude Russia from its membership, as it violates its obligations regarding peace support.

– According to the UN Charter, this is an obligation to maintain peace in the international arena. Member countries that violate these principles may be expelled from the General Assembly and the UN Security Council. Although Russia violates these principles, it has not yet been held accountable, Zelensky said.

According to him, the Russian Federation cannot vote on issues related to the war in Ukraine. The head of state also believes that it is important to deprive the Russian Federation of the opportunity to manipulate the UN.

– Russia does not have the right to participate in elections that relate to Ukraine. I urge you to deprive Russia of the right to vote in the General Assembly. This is unfair, Russia has no right to remain in the Security Council. If we express political will, then the UN charter will work,” he said.

During his speech, Zelensky also suggested that members of the UN Security Council recognize the missile strike of Russian troops on Kremenchug as a terrorist attack.

– I propose that there should be a statement, that there should be a decision that this is a terrorist act. And so that it can be investigated. To check that it really was an attack from the territory of Russia, the president emphasized.

As the head of state noted, if such actions had been committed by any organization, then the tragedy would have been recognized as a terrorist act. Since the state staged the attack, the perpetrators may not be punished.
